اختبار الهوموسيستين هو فحص دموي يقيس مستوى الحمض الأميني الهوموسيستين في الدم، والذي يعد مؤشراً مهماً لتقييم مخاطر الإصابة بأمراض القلب والأوعية الدموية. يتم إجراء الفحص عن طريق سحب عينة دم وريدي بعد صيام لمدة 8-12 ساعة، حيث تعتبر المستويات الطبيعية للبالغين بين 5-15 ميكرومول/لتر. ارتفاع مستويات الهوموسيستين قد يشير إلى نقص في فيتامين B12 أو حمض الفوليك، أو وجود خلل في الأوعية الدموية، مما يستدعي المزيد من التقييم الطبي.

Homocysteine testing is primarily used to evaluate patients for cardiovascular disease risk and to diagnose homocystinuria, as elevated levels are associated with increased risk of blood clots, heart attacks, and strokes. The test may also be used to investigate the cause of thromboembolism and to monitor patients with B12 or folate deficiency, as these vitamins are essential for homocysteine metabolism.
